    Rebuilt Mosquito – 18th August, 2013

    Event – Rebuilt Mosquito Fighter Bomber, Victoria Air Maintanance Hanger, Sidney, BC Portrayal – RCAF Aircrew 1945 Participants – Tony Austin, Simon Sobolewski, Joel Tyler After Action Report – Simon Sobolewski As Don Thomas and I are members of the Vancouver Island Aircrew Association, we received a last-minute invitation to view the nearly completed Mosquito in the Hanger at Sidney. Mel Johnstone kindly agreed to show us the MK.B 35 Mosquito, which is nearing the end of its stay in Victoria before flying over to Vancouver in a month or so’s time.  Mel and his crew have done a superb job of rebuilding this “Wooden Wonder”. We were escorted around the aircraft by an actual…

Sidney Air Museum Open House – 27th July, 2013

Event: Open House at Sidney Air Museum Portrayal: 435 Squadron, RCAF, Burma, 1944/45 Participants: Bob Campbell, Perry Chow, Johnthan Wolter, Brent Blakely, Bill Goss After Action Report: Don Thomas To begin with the weather was fantastic for both the museum and VEMRA which produced a steady but not overwhelming flow of visitors. Our theme this year was once again the Canadians in Burma, which proved to be a good choice. The KD uniforms and bush hats were a welcome choice during the height of the heat through out the day. Our layout was a “ forward airfield control team” backed by Perry’s Force 136 interpolation and Brent’s jeep and anti-aircraft Bren gun set up. And as…

  Event: Canada Day, Fort Rodd Hill NHS, Colwood, BC Portrayal: Various Era Participants: Don Thomas, Tony Austin, Perry Chow, Gary Kangas, Sybil Kangas, Jaques Vanbodegraven, Jonathan Wolter After Action Report: Don Thomas With the weather in full cooperation, Canada Day 2013 kicked off at 10:00 Hrs. the Canteen was manned by Garry, Sybil and Jacques kitted out as the Victoria Vol Rifles.  Through out the day they served an outstanding Victorian Tea service, serving up over 300 cups of tea. And educating the public on Victoria’s military Volunteer movement through out the 1860’s.
