    The Ball for the End of An Era – 20th September, 2014

    This was Part Two to our “Victoria, Mobilize!” event. It was a chance to dress up, put on the Opera Gloves, polish your shoes, have a lovely cocktail or two in the Magnificent Union Club, dine on their Sumptuous evening Buffet and have the Most wonderful of times dancing in the company of other like-minded folks. Only 100 tickets were available and the event sold out quickly. The evenings schedule consisted of: Cocktails at 6 pm; Buffet at 7 pm; Ball opens with Grand March at 8:30 pm; and Ball ended at 10:30 pm 1) Thanks to Denis Pare and the Union Club for taking this eclectic idea and embracing it.     Battle of Britain – 14th September, 2014

      EVENT— Battle of Britain; PLACE—  BC Aviation Museum, Sidney BC; DATE—    14 Sept. 2014; VEMRA — Tony Austin-Sqn. Leader, Gary Kangas- Air raid Precautions, Connor Thomas- Air Sea Rescue, Jonathan Wolter- Actually flying in his Royal Canadian Air Cadet Glider, Don Thomas- RAF Hospital Attendant; AAR – Don Thomas An Actual air raid siren sounds!!! ( thanks to Gary Kangas) The Flight scrambles and it was “Bandits at Angels 13” So began the start of the air Museum’s Annual Battle of Britain Commemoration Day. The weather was clear, sunny and Hot. Shirt sleeve order was the dress of the day and from 10:30 Hours through to 16:30 Hours the crowd was a steady flow…

    Metchosin Days 2014 – Sunday 7th September, 2014

      As we did last year, Project Germani and it sub group, Legio VIIII Hispanica, attended the local fair at Metchosin days in Metchosin, BC. We set up two camps – daily life on the march for the Legion and a static Cheiftain’s camp – both 1st Century AD.     Captured German Guns, Memorial Park – 4th September 2014

      Through the efforts of Mike Reed of the Township of Esquimalt, VEMRA was invited to participate in the morning’s activities surrounding the re-mounting of the captured German WW1 guns at Memorial Park, Esquimalt. Don Thomas, John Maybin, Bob campbell, Dan Dalby, Andrew Tyler and Simon Sobolewski were in attendance in a variery of uniforms covering not only the Regiments in existence at the beginning of the War in Victoria in 1914 but also the Bavarian troops who manned those guns. http://www.cheknews.ca/esquimalt-unveils-big-guns/ http://www.lookoutnewspaper.com/history-revisited-memorial-park/ Below are some photos from the day from the Township of Esquimalt’s facebook page.
